How to set up a translated voice or WhatsApp call from Claude
Connect VoiceCallTranslator to Claude once, then ask Claude to set up a call: it creates a room on your account and gives you what to send the other person, and how to start the call yourself, on WhatsApp or in the browser.
What can Claude do with VoiceCallTranslator?
Four things, each one a tool Claude uses when you ask:
- Set up a call. Claude creates a room on your account, in your language and the other person's. For a call in the browser it gives you two links: one to send, and one that starts the call for you. For a WhatsApp call it gives you our WhatsApp number to call and an invitation to send.
- List your rooms. Your open rooms, with their languages, whether each is a WhatsApp or a browser room, the date of their last call, and their links. A room can be used again and again.
- Check your minutes. How many translation minutes you have left.
- List the languages. The languages a call can use.
The call itself happens on WhatsApp or on voicecalltranslator.com, exactly as it does without Claude. Claude prepares it; you make it.
What can't Claude do?
Claude cannot start, join or listen to a call, and it never hears what is said on one. It does not send invitations: you send them yourself, by WhatsApp, text message, email, or however you usually talk to that person. It cannot buy or spend minutes either; minutes are used only while both people are connected on a call.
It cannot connect your WhatsApp number for you. That is done once on your rooms page, by sending us a short message from your WhatsApp, which proves the number is yours. Until then, Claude can still make WhatsApp rooms, and you can start their calls in the browser.
Creating a room is free, so asking Claude to set one up costs nothing until you talk.
How do I connect VoiceCallTranslator to Claude?
You need a VoiceCallTranslator account, the one you host calls from. Create one if you have not. Then:
- Open VoiceCallTranslator in Claude's connector directory and press Connect to Claude. You can also find it in Claude under Settings, then Connectors, by searching for VoiceCallTranslator.
- Claude opens our sign-in page. Sign in with Google, or with your email and password.
- Our approval page names Claude and lists what it will be able to do: create rooms, read your rooms, and read your minutes balance. To connect read-only, untick room creation. Press Allow.
- Back in Claude, ask for what you want, for example "Set up a WhatsApp call with my contractor, who speaks Spanish."
Nothing on your account is shared with Claude until you press Allow.
What can I ask Claude?
- "Set up a WhatsApp call with my contractor, who speaks Spanish."
- "Make a call room for talking to my mother-in-law in Portuguese."
- "Create a room called Weekly client call. I speak English and my client speaks Japanese."
- "Show my VoiceCallTranslator rooms."
- "How many translation minutes do I have left?"
- "Which languages can a translated call use?"
In Claude, VoiceCallTranslator also has a ready-made request, Set up a translated call, among the connector's prompts; it asks you whatever it needs.
A WhatsApp room needs the other person's language, because a phone call cannot ask them. For a browser room, if you do not say it, they choose on the screen they see before joining. If you do not say yours, the room uses the language set on your account.
What does Claude see?
The list of call languages. When you ask for them, your open rooms: the names you gave them, their languages, the date of their last call, and their links. The rooms it creates for you, and their links. For a WhatsApp room, our WhatsApp number, the invitation for your guest, and whether you have connected your own WhatsApp number, never the number itself. And your minutes balance. It never receives your email address, your phone number, your guests' names, your call history, anything said on a call, or your payment details.
What Claude receives becomes part of your conversation with it, which Anthropic keeps under its own privacy policy. That includes room links. Anyone with a room's link can join that room's calls while you are in it, so if a link has gone somewhere it should not, close the room from your account and its link stops working. The full wording is in our privacy policy.
How do I disconnect Claude?
On VoiceCallTranslator, go to Account → Settings → Connected assistants and press Disconnect. Claude's access ends at once.
Removing the connector inside Claude stops Claude using it, but the connection may stay listed on your account until it expires. A connection unused for 30 days expires by itself, and deleting your account ends every connection.
What if it does not work?
- Claude asks you to reconnect. Connect again from Claude's connector settings and press Allow. It happens after you disconnect from your account page, or after 30 days without use.
- Claude answers from its own knowledge instead. Check that the connector is switched on for the conversation, and name VoiceCallTranslator in your request.
- Claude cannot create a room. If you connected read-only, disconnect and connect again with room creation ticked. There is also a limit on how many rooms an account can create in an hour; your existing rooms all still work, and Claude can list them.
- Your WhatsApp call goes to a different room. Your calls go to one room at a time. Turn on Calls go here for the room you want on your rooms page.

Common questions
Can Claude start a translated call for me?
No. Claude creates the room and tells you how to use it. You start the call yourself, from WhatsApp or from the host link, and the other person joins from the invitation. Claude cannot join or listen to a call.
Can Claude set up a translated WhatsApp call?
Yes. Ask for a WhatsApp call and say which language the other person speaks. Claude creates a WhatsApp room and gives you our WhatsApp number to call and an invitation to send. Your own WhatsApp number is connected once on your rooms page, not through Claude.
Does the person I am calling need Claude or an account?
No. They join from WhatsApp or from a link in any browser, with no app to install and no account.
Does connecting Claude cost anything?
No. Connecting and creating rooms are free. Translation minutes come from your prepaid balance only while both people are connected on a call.
How do I disconnect Claude from VoiceCallTranslator?
