WhatsApp call translator: how to have a translated WhatsApp voice call

WhatsApp can't translate a call on its own; its built-in translation covers text messages only. With VoiceCallTranslator you call our WhatsApp number from your own WhatsApp, the person you're talking to calls the same number or opens a link, and each of you hears the other in your own language. Nobody installs anything new.

Can WhatsApp translate a voice call?

Not by itself. Since September 2025 WhatsApp can translate text messages — press and hold a message and tap Translate — but nothing in the app translates what people say out loud on a call.

Some phones add it from the outside. Supported Samsung Galaxy phones can translate calls in WhatsApp with Galaxy AI's Live Translate. Apple's Live Translation and Google Pixel's call translation work in their own Phone apps, not in WhatsApp.

Most apps sold as a “WhatsApp call translator” move the conversation somewhere else: they send a link in the chat that opens their own call screen, or listen to a call on speaker. The call you end up on is no longer a WhatsApp call.

How does a translated WhatsApp call work?

You both call one WhatsApp business number: ours. A translator sits in the middle of the call, so you hear the other person in your language and they hear you in theirs, a moment after each sentence.

It is a normal WhatsApp voice call on your side. You start it from the WhatsApp chat with our number, the same way you would call a friend.

How to set it up

  1. Sign up on the site and, on your rooms page, connect your WhatsApp: type your number, and WhatsApp opens with a short code to send us. Sending it proves the number is yours. We send back our contact card so you can save us.
  2. Create a WhatsApp room, choosing your language and the language of the person you'll call.
  3. Invite them. Tap Invite guest and send the invitation however you like. It has two ways in: a link that opens the call in their browser, and a WhatsApp link that writes a short message to us — they send it, then press call.
  4. Call us on WhatsApp. You're connected straight away and a voice tells you you're waiting for the other person. When they join, it says so. Then talk.

The same room works for every call with that person, so you only set this up once.

What does each person hear?

The other person's voice and, right after each sentence, a translation of it in your language. You never hear your own words translated back to you.

While you wait for the other person, a short message every minute tells you the line is still open. If nobody joins within five minutes, the call ends politely. Waiting is never charged.

Choose WhatsApp when you'd rather just make a call: no browser, no tabs, and it works wherever WhatsApp does. Choose the web when you want to read along, adjust the volumes, or let your guest pick their own language.

The two mix: you can call in on WhatsApp while your guest joins from the link in their browser.

What does it cost?

Only the host pays, from prepaid translation minutes that never expire, and only while both of you are on the call. New accounts start with 30 free minutes. The person you invite never pays and never needs an account.

Calling our number is an ordinary WhatsApp call over the internet, so it uses your data or Wi-Fi rather than phone credit.

Is it private?

It is not end-to-end encrypted the way a call between two WhatsApp users is. It can't be: the translator has to hear what you say. Your call reaches our service through WhatsApp's business platform, is translated as you speak, and is not recorded. Every connection is encrypted in transit.

For anything legal or medical, use a professional interpreter rather than any machine translation.

Common questions

Does WhatsApp have a call translator?

No. WhatsApp translates text messages, not calls. To have a translated WhatsApp voice call, you and the other person call VoiceCallTranslator's WhatsApp number, and each of you hears the other in your own language.

Do both people need WhatsApp?

No. The host calls in on WhatsApp, and the person they invite can call in on WhatsApp too or join from a link in any browser.

Does the other person need an account or an app?

No. They only need WhatsApp or a browser. Guests never pay and never sign up.

Does it work for video calls?

No. WhatsApp calls to a business are voice only. For a translated video call, use the sister site VideoCallTranslator.com.
